Time to get the jab
not the flu
When is the best
time to get a flu jab?
- Ideally late
September to early November is the most ideal time because the virus will be
circulating by winter.
- If you think you
need a flu vaccination, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
- You should have
a flu jab if you are aged 65 or over, or if you have a serious heart problem,
bad asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). People
with long-term kidney or liver disease, diabetes, or a weakened immune system
as a result of an illness such as HIV or AIDS or due to treatment such as
chemotherapy.
- Health experts
here are now recommending everyone over 50 years get the jab -- this will help
reduce the amount of flu circulating and leave the the
most vulnerable at less risk.
- It is available
free to people who fall into the "at risk" categories or who have a
medical card.
- Flu symptoms hit
you suddenly and severely. They usually include fever, chills, headaches and
aching muscles, and you can often get a cough and sore throat at the same time.
